Child

Photo taken by Anu

Child, you have been an adult

Since your soul eyes could see

The currency of love for you was too deep

Too raucous a concept for her to bear

And so we became what the adult would not

It was a choice to be a parent to the adult

But that did not mean equal consent to become

Her own core had rotted, and so your tree’s roots

Also became a reflection of such sour spoils

Child, you have been mature since your parent would not be

The choice the adult made to be petty and manipulative is not your fault

It was never your fault

Your garnet child is still there

Cradled in the roots of your subconscious

She is your own best love

The one who takes and takes the pain, but never ends

The suffered hands of my garnet child

Are burnt from the inferno that I could not stop

With my tears of betrayed motherhood

Child, you have been here before

And you will be here again

But that does not mean the Grace

Of being alive

Is not yours to breathe

Life is yours to collect

The dragonfly of your mouth

Is still there

And it whirs, ever present

Let your tears, be the garden on which

We grow more love

Than we were ever afforded
